Estaing is one of the most beautiful villages in France It is nestled in a natural setting of hills and located in the heart of the Lot valley, in Aveyron.
It is also an unmissable stopover on the Pilgrimage to St Jacques de Compostelle (GR65).

The Château d'Estaing, classified as a historical monument in 1945 was bought in 2005 by the former President of the Republic Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, who passed away on December 2nd, 2020. It was built in the 13th century around a pentagonal keep, overlooking the bridge of Estaing on the Lot river. The cross protecting the bridge may be see in the photograph.

The shape of this cross is typical as may be seen from the photos. The original cross was made in the XIXth century and a Parisian ironworker in 1960 copied the 19th century cross which was located in the same place, and whose model had inspired the jeweler Henri Lesieur in 1958. The old 19th century cross has been relocated at the intersection of the d'Annat and Nayrac roads
