Presented here is a very Rare Sterling Silver with a Gold Chalice First Communion Medal of French Origin with its hand made chain, also in Sterling Silver.
The medal dates from 1900 ( 10 June ) in the city of Caen and is carved on the back with the G.L. initials.
The chain is newer and dates from the 1960's.
It was very much in fashion to offer such medals on the occasion of the First Communion. The Chalice representation is symbolic of the Communion.
It is in pristine condition. It has a great design with a lot of fine metal work very typical of the Art Nouveau Style . A true work of art. Rare and impressive.
Dimensions of the medal are : 33 x 25 mm ( 1.3 x 1 in.) excluding the bail.
Weight of the medal alone is 5.3 grams.
The chain is 48 cm long ( 19.2 in.) and 5.7 grams in weight.
Total weight : 11 grams
