1960's Two sided Medal Hand Painted Miniature of Senhor Bom Jesus Milagroso in 18K Gold Frame - V.Rare

Presented here is a very rare porcelain medal of Senhor Bom Jesus Milgroso - Good Lord Miraculous Jesus in an 18K Solid Gold frame.

It is a hand painted miniature on porcelain, then Kiln fired and inserted in an 18 k solid gold frame.

Origin of the miniature is very probably Portugal. It is not sure where the frame was made. It is hallmarked and tested.

The medal is two sided : on the obverse the typical representation of Senhor Bom Jesus Milagroso and on the reverse The name written in Portuguese.

It is to be noted that the representation is inspired by the 17th Century painting of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, a Spanish painter who practically imposed this image on later representations.

The medal is in pristine condition and it is sold WITHOUT the chain in the picture.

It is a very fine and nice item to wear.

It is a large medal with Dimensions of : 31 x 24 mm or 1.25 x 1.0 in. ( excluding bail)

Weight of the medal is a total of 5.85 grams

The island of Pico (Açores) dedicates a particular devotion to Senhor Bom Jesus Milagroso – understand Good miraculous Jesus. Every year on August 6, the Sanctuary of São Mateus serves as a place of pilgrimage. Thousands of residents come from all over the archipelago to honor the image of the Saint for 3 days.

Note that other central islands such as Graciosa in particular (on August 8), also celebrate this festival. To the religious scope is then added a more popular dimension: musical shows and folk groups are integrated into the programming.
