Art Deco Pendant 18 K Gold Plique-à-Jour Medal : Virgin Mary with lilies w Chain

Presented here is a very charming 18 K Solid Gold pendant, dating back to the Art Deco Period , with attractive features as follows :

a) It has measurements of 20 x 20 mm - without bail - and is round

b) Its weight is 2.45 grams

c) It is made using the “Plique-à-jour” technique : Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel.

d) The pendant is high relief and made in France. It represents the Virgin Mary in profile, with Lilies and a gold halo . Enamel is in 2 colors Aqua and Blue

e) It is hallmarked with the Eagle's head which is the French hallmark for 18K Gold.

f) It has a plain the reverse and it is signed by Monier. This is Emile Monier 1883-1970 a French Sculptor and well known Medal engraver who was at his peak during the Art Deco Period, wherefrom the very distinguished Art Deco style of the present medal.

Pictures have been taken so that the beautiful Plique-à-jour effect is well seen.

The chain in the picture is NOT gold but Gold plated. It is also vintage but very probably dates back to the 1950's . It is included as a gift in the offer.

This very rare item is highly attractive and extremely well done. In an exceptional as new condition it is definitely a unique heirloom.
