Presented here is a very exceptional and rare item : A hand painted quite dramatic miniature of the late 19th Century representing Saint Rita inserted in a filigree sterling silver frame, with accompanying vermeil chain of later days. This item may be worn as a pendant as well as a brooch.
The work is very finely executed with precision and neatness with colors still very sharp.
The scene is very clear and vivid with colors : we see Saint Rita holding the crown of thorns and her bleeding forehead which was the stigmata of Jesus' wound from the crown of thorns, symbolizing St. Rita's unity with Christ in his sufferings.
The frame in filigree Vermeil ( Gold plated sterling silver) is extremely fine, very well and neatly made, a real beauty and seldom seen shape.
The miniature and frame date from the late part of the 19th century.
Both are in pristine condition.
The chain is included as a gift : it is a gold plated vintage chain – 55 cm
This is an item of extreme rarity, special beauty and elegance - one of its kind with a perfect execution of the miniature and of the frame. It will give its owner extreme pleasure and will attract the attention of all antique lovers and connoisseurs.
