Presented here is a very remarkable and unusual Large pendant medal of the Virgin Mary , dating from the 1900's - Edwardian - with rare and unique features as follows :
a) The medal is round with a diameter of 18 Mm ( without bail ) . The representation is that of the famous Angel by Raphael
b) The medal, in vermeil ( 925 Sterling Silver electroplated with 24 K Gold) weighs - alone - 2.4 grams. It is in Pristine condition, like new.
c) it is sold together with the 55 cm - 22 in. chain which is not vermeil but Gold Plated Bronze. The chain alone weighs 3 grams - therefore total weight is 5.4 grams
d) It is made using the “Plique-à-jour” technique : Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel.
e) The pendant is high relief and made in France .
