Presented here is a very rare porcelain medal of St Eligius, dated 1920 - 1930. It is a hand painted miniature on porcelain, then Kiln fired and inserted in an 18 k solid gold frame.
Saint Eligius (also Eloy, Eloi or Loye; French: Éloi; 11 June 588 – 1 December 660 AD) is the patron saint of goldsmiths, other metalworkers, and coin collectors. He is also the patron saint of veterinarians, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), a corps of the British Army, but he is best known for being the patron saint of horses and those who work with them
Origin of the miniature is very probably Portugal or Spain. It is not sure where the frame was made. It is hallmarked and tested.
The medal is two sided : Standing picture of St. Eligius - and on the reverse : Sto Eloy - St Eligius.
The medal is in pristine condition and it is sold WITHOUT the chain in the picture.
It is a very fine and nice item to wear.
Dimensions of the medal are : 34 x 20 mm or 1.36 x 0.8 in.
Weight of the framed medal is 4.3 grams.
This is an extremely rare item, very well made
