Unique Bavarian Rosary Sterling Silver and Uranium (Vaseline) Glass 19th Century XXXR

All Antique and Vintage Rosaries that I list come from my private collection. They are genuine antiques – older than 100 years – or genuine vintages – from 30 to 100 years old. All are in perfect condition and still very much usable. They are unique and a real pleasure to collect or still use.

The item in this listing has the following characteristics:

This is a Bavarian Catholic 5 decade rosary dating from the early second part of the 19th century. It is made of Sterling filigree Silver and extremely rare Faceted Uranium (or Vaseline) Glass beads. ++++ See explanation here below+++++.

A. 7 mm average d Vintage Yellow Green faceted Uranium beads for the Ave Marias with a beautiful yellow green color – called annagrün by specialists. Each a separated by a filigree sterling separator.

B. 12 mm dia. Filigree Silver Pater Beads typically Bavarian.

C. STERLING SILVER Filigree Bavarian Reliquary cross 65 X 45 mm with Ceramic inserts on both sides. Please look at the picture closely.
The cross contains a sealed relic as most Bavarian early rosaries do.

D. A Credo Cross typical of the Bavarian Rosaries is 26 x 26 mm.

E. Total length of the rosary is 31 cm

Uranium glass is glass which has had uranium, usually in oxide diuranate form, added to a glass mix before melting for coloration. The proportion usually varies from trace levels to about 2% uranium by weight.
Uranium glass is recognized by its luminescence under UV light (called also Black light). It is not luminescent in the dark.
The first major producer of items made of uranium glass is commonly recognized as Austrian Franz Xaver Riedel, who named the yellow (German: Gelb) and yellow-green (German: Gelb-Grün) varieties of the glass "annagelb" and "annagrün", respectively, in honor of his daughter Anna .Maria.
Uranium glass was once made into tableware and household items, but fell out of widespread use when the availability of uranium to most industries was sharply curtailed. Most such objects are now considered antiques or retro-era collectibles.
Today faceted quality Uranium beads are of high rarity and much sought after by collectors.
The Uranium glass objects are completely safe to handle as the radio activity of uranium glass objects is hardly traceable and does not exceed that of any other surrounding object of everyday life
